OVERVIEW

Rome is a city you will never forget, offering incredible art and antiquities. Learn about Greek heritage and Renaissance leaders through painting and sculpture as you spend four days enjoying fountains and palaces, fabulous food and wine and a plethora of churches and ruins. Experience the unique neapolitan culture as you explore the Almalfi coast, Mount Vesuvius, Pompeii, Herculaneum and the scented trails of Capri. Southern Italy at your feet!

ITINERARY

DAY 1 SATURDAY MAY 8 DEPARTURE

Depart from JFK airport with Iberia/American Airlines. Check-in at the airport should be 3 hours prior to departure. Transfers from Brandywine campus are optional.

DAY 2 SUNDAY MAY 9 ROME

Assistance upon arrival and transfer to hotel. Remainder of the day at leisure to explore the city.

DAY 3 MONDAY MAY 10 ROME

Full day at leisure. Optional guided tour of the Vatican and Saint Peter's Basilica including a one way transfer and the Sistine Chapel.

DAY 4 TUESDAY MAY 11 ROME

Full day at leisure. Plan your day to visit the Forum, the Coloseum, the old city with the Pantheon, the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. Enjoy an evening in Trastevere.

DAY 5 WEDNESDAY MAY 12 ROME

Full day at leisure. Optional excursion to Ostia and Tivoli. Visit the archaeological site at Ostia and the Hadrian's Villa in Tivoli. Free time to see the Villa d’Este on your own or enjoy a stroll around the ancient River Tiber.

DAY 6 THURSDAY MAY 13 NAPLES

Transfer by coach to Naples. Tour of Naples on arrival and visit the Archaeological Museum as an introduction to Pompeii. Afternoon walking tour of Pompeii.

DAY 7 FRIDAY MAY 14 NAPLES

Excursion to Mount Vesuvius with a tour of the volcano followed by a visit to Herculaneum.

DAY 8 SATURDAY MAY 15 NAPLES

Full day excurion to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. Leisure time in Positano and Amalfi.

DAY 9 SUNDAY MAY 16 CAPRI

Transfer to pier. Round trip to Capri by hydrofoil. Day at leisure in Capri.

DAY10 MONDAY MAY 17 RETURN

Transfer to airport for your return flight to JFK. Early transfer to Fiumicino for those traveling with Iberia.

*   HTH travel and health insurance required by Penn State.
*   Visitor’s fee for all participants who do not have a Penn State ID + $50.00
*   Merchant fee of 3.5% on all amounts paid by Visa or MasterCard
*   Passport and visa: Everyone needs a passport valid until November 17, 2010. If you are not an : American citizen, a visa may  be required. A Green Card or equivalent is compulsory.

 

COURSE REGISTRATION

Credit Courses:
A number of Penn State 3-credit courses, not requiring regular attendance at Brandywine campus, are offered in combination with all Brandywine International Studies trips. Approved full time students at all Penn State Campuses are eligible to take two courses (6 credits) at no additional cost. To establish eligibility at any Penn State campus, the student should obtain his/her adviser's permission to register then receive the confirmation of approval from the Brandywine DAA and from the teacher of the course. The courses may also be taken by non-Penn State students for transfer-credit, but in those cases the applicable tuition fee will apply.

Trip Registration versus Course Registration:
All travel arrangements are made through Celestial Voyagers, a fully insured tour operator. Do not contact Penn State professors or employees regarding flights, hotels or travel information. They may not have the very latest information.

PAYMENT (TERMS & CONDITIONS)

Celestial Voyagers’ terms relate to contracts with airlines, hotels and other suppliers. The regulations below must be strictly enforced as they are related to these contracts.

 

Deposit $300.00 due upon registration and before January 29, 2010


Balance due no later than March 5, 2010

After January 29 full payment is due with registration

Space may be available until January 29. However, after January 30, airfare may increase and an additional $100.00 late fee will apply.

 

All check payments to be made out to Celestial Voyagers escrow account. Your deposit secures your reservation with the airline, the hotel and other suppliers. It must be sent with a copy of your passport and the registration form.


Credit card payments:
We accept Visa and MasterCard. Since Merchant fees are not included in the package price, a 3.5% supplement applies should you wish to pay by credit card.

 

Cancellation:
All cancellations must be received in writing. Tthe following penalties apply:

* $150.00 non-refundable processing fee

* Penalty of 50% of the total trip cost if cancellation is received betweenMarch 5 and April 2

* Penalty of 100% of the total trip cost if cancellation is received after April 2 and in case of a no-show.

These policies will be strictly applied.

 

 

TRAVEL INSURANCE

All travelers on Penn State programs are required to purchase travel insurance through HTH Worldwide. Students will be sent enrollment information 2 weeks prior to departure. Non-students must purchase TravelGap or TripProtector from http://www.hthtravelinsurance.com.

TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

Travel documents will be distributed at Penn State Brandywine, on April 23, 2010 at 12:30 PM. It is most important to attend this meeting or send a substitute. If this is not possible, your professor(s) and Celestial Voyagers MUST be notified.

 

If your documents have to be sent directly to you, you must submit your request for this service in writing and supply your address. Somebody will need to be home to sign for tthe package and a $20.00 administration, handling and mailing fee applies.
