DAY 1 - DEPARTURE

Departure from JFK on the Delta non stop flight going to Athens. Checking-in at terminal 4 should be three hours prior to departure.

DAY 2 -

Assistance and transfer to your hotel, nicely located in the center of Athens. Check-in at hotel for one night. Remainder of the day at leisure. Welcome dinner at local Taverna, wine is included.

 

DAY 3 - DELPHI

Morning sightseeing of Athens: a complete city tour with all the landmarks of Athens. (The visit of the Acropolis will be at the end of the trip since the tickets are good for 5 days in a row). Afternoon drive to Delphi. Check-in at hotel for 2 nights.

DAY 4 - DELPHI

Morning sightseeing of Delphi site including the Museum. Delphi is a town on Mount Parnassus in the south of mainland Greece dating from the 4th-century-B.C. It was home to a legendary oracle. This huge archaeological complex contains the remains of the sanctuaries of Apollo and Athena Pronaia, as well as an ancient stadium and a theater. It used to be considered as the center of the world! Afternoon at leisure in Delphi.

 

DAY 5 - KALAMBAKA

Departure after breakfast for Kalambaka, (145 miles – 3 1/2 hour) Check-in at the hotel on arrival for 3 nights Afternoon short visit of Kalambaka, a small town situated on the foot of the Meteora peaks.

DAY 6 - KALAMBAKA

Visit Meteora: The Meteora is a rock formation where you will find one of the largest complex of Eastern Orthodox monasteries, second in importance only to Mount Athos. Six monasteries are built on immense natural pillars and hills like rounded boulders that dominate the area. It is on the list of the Unesco World Heritage sites.

 

DAY 7 - KALAMBAKA

Full day excursion to go to Mount Olympus. It is 82 miles from Kalambaka / 3 hour drive each way. Mount Olympus is Greece’s highest mountain and the home to the Gods of Greek mythology. It is a paradise for climbers, hikers and lovers of nature. It has 52 peaks, deep gorges, and exceptional biodiversity. The highest peak, Mytikas, meaning “nose”, rises to 9,570 ft

DAY 8 - OLYMPIA

Departure after breakfast to go to Olympia: 270 miles – 5 hour drive Check-in at your hotel on arrival. Remainder of the day at leisure

DAY 9 - NAFPLIO

Morning sightseeing. Walking tour of Olympia archeological site and its museum. Olympia is an ancient site on Greece’s Peloponnese peninsula that hosted the original Olympic Games, founded in the 8th century B.C. Its extensive ruins include athletic training areas, a stadium and temples dedicated to the gods Hera and Zeus. Afternoon drive to Nafplio. Check-in at hotel for 2 nights.

 

DAY 10 - NAFPLIO

Morning walking tour of Nafplio, the nicest town of the region of Argolis in Peloponnese. Its walls, houses, monuments and castles cover all kinds of architecture from the Romans, Byzantine, medieval, Ottoman and Venitian times. Afternoon at leisure to enjoy the charms of this romantic little town.

DAY 11 - ATHENS

Morning departure to go to Athens. En route the first stop will be Mycenae: 13 miles half an hour drive. Mycenae is the most important center of the civilization that was named “Mycenaean” after this very citadel. This culture dominated mainland Greece, the Aegean islands, and the shores of Asia Minor during the lateBronze Age era (circa 1600-1100 BCE). Continue to Epidaurus, 24 miles, 45 minutes drive to visit the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, which is regarded as the best preserved ancient theatre in Greece in terms of its perfect acoustics and fine structure. Proceed to Athens with a photo stop at the Canal of Corinth, which connects the Gulf of Corinth to the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Arrival to Athens in the evening. Check-in at hotel for 4 nights.

 

DAY 12 - ATHENS

Full day guided walking tour of the Acropolis and the Parthenon. The tour will start with a visit of the new museum of the Acropolis. Then you will walk up to the Parthenon. Your student ticket to the Acropolis is valid for five consecutive days. This ticket gives access to the Acropolis and six of the other must see archaeological sites in Athens, including the Ancient Agora, Hadrian’s Library and the Roman Agora. Do not forget to take your student card with you!

DAY 13 - ATHENS

DAY 14 - ATHENS

Morning transfer to go to Piraeus, the port of Athens, where you will take the ferry to go and visit the nice little island of Aegina. Tour of the island . on arrival to see the Temple of Aphaia, and the large fields of almond and pistachio trees. Free time for shopping or enjoying the beach. Return to Athens on the evening ferry. Breakfast.

 

DAY 15 - ATHENS

Day at leisure. Farewell dinner at local taverna with music and folklore.

 

DAY 16 - RETURN

Transfer by coach to Athens airport to take your Delta flight back to JFK.
