DAY 1 - DEPARTURE USA

Thursday April 1st, 2027

WHY SARDINIA?

For 2027, we are offering a fascinating new destination: Sardinia. The kindness and generosity of the Sardinian people will make you feel like you’re an honored guest in their land. Sardinia is filled with dramatic scenery from craggy mountains to rocky coastlines and the remains of prehistoric civilizations including mysterious giants: 40 towering limestone statues depicting warriors, archers, and boxers. Memorable culinary specialties include culurgiones (stuffed pasta in a special leaf shape), mirto (wild myrtle liqueur), pane carasau (carta di musica—sheet music)—long-lasting paper thin bread crisps originally eaten by shepherds, bottarga (salt-cured fish roe), and fregola (toasted semolina pasta bits related to couscous).

Parts of Sardegna (its Italian name) are in the Blue Zone where people commonly live to over 100 years old, partly due to strong social connections, lots of hill-climbing, and a diet based on local seafood, grains, sheep’s milk cheese, legumes, garden greens, and antioxidant-rich local wines.

Overnight flight from Philadelphia to Cagliari, Sardinia which could be with United Airlines or Lufthansa. From other gateways you could fly via Rome or other European cities. Celestial Voyagers will help you to find the best route which will fit your needs.

Note that the following itinerary may be revised according to our confirmation of services that are subject to availability.

DAY 2 - CAGLIARI: WELCOME TO SARDINIA

Note that arrival transfer to the hotel is not included but we can arrange a car service for you. Taxis are available to go to your hotel. Uber is not available in Sardinia.

In the evening, meet your travel companions as we share our welcome dinner and get to know the typical flavors of Sardinia.

DAY 3 - CAGLIARI: THE CAPITAL

Saturday April 3rd, 2027 | B | D

Today, with our Sardinian guide, Anna Maria, we will discover the “Castello,” its fortifications, its bastions, and the magnificent Terrazza Umberto the First.
Along the way we’ll sample Sardinian culinary specialties and explore the famous San Benedetto city market.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Museum of Archeology, the perfect introduction to the extraordinary archeological sites of the island that we’ll see later in the tour.

Evening dinner at a local restaurant.

DAY 4 - CAGLIARI - STEPPING BACK INTO PREHISTORICAL TIMES

Sunday April 4th, 2027 | B | D

Breakfast & Cooking Class w/ Dinner

This morning, our local guide, Anna Maria, will accompany us to Su Nuraxi, a UNESCO site near Barumini, forty miles north of Cagliari. This well-preserved monumental site which developed during the seventeenth century BCE consists of nuraghe, a bastion of four corner towers plus a central one, and a village inhabited from the thirteenth to the sixth century BCE.

Then we’ll go to the Su Enju Winery for a wine tasting and snacks.

We return to Cagliari for a cooking class to prepare our dinner.

DAY 5 - ORISTANO AREA: CENTRAL WEST PART OF SARDINIA

Monday April 5th, 2027 | B | L

We leave Cagliari to reach Oristano, a 65 miles highway drive.
Walking tour of Oristano with Anna Maria. This medieval city is famed for the Sartiglia, spectacular equestrian festivals featuring masked knights, which take place during Carnival.
We’ll continue to Cabras to visit the Giovanni Marongiu Archeological Museum where the gigantic and enigmatic Nuragic statues dating from 900 – 800 BCE were found in 1974 a few miles away at Monte Parma.
Lunch in Cabras, where bottarga (dried salted red mullet roe) is made. We’ll learn how this “golden caviar” of Sardinia is produced and used as a condiment, especially to season Fregula (or fregola) Pasta. We will also visit a preserve factory.

DAY 6 - SU GOLOGONE EXPERIENCE

Tuesday April 6th, 2027 | B | L

Morning visit to Andrea’s farm where they raise dairy and meat cattle and produce. We’ll taste some of their products as well as local wine.

Next, we go to Santu Lussurgiu, a small medieval town which developed in the crater of an old volcano. Here they produce casizzolu, a pear-shaped yellow-tinted cheese.

Lunch at Antica Dimora del Gruccione where they serve a five-course menu that changes daily, according to the season and availability of products.

We continue to Su Gologone, 65 miles away.

We’ll stay at this unique hotel for 2 nights.

DAY 7 - SU GOLOGONE EXPERIENCE

Wednesday April 7th, 2027 | B | L

We spend a full day at Su Gologone, the renowned, family-owned rural lodge in the lush central Sardinian countryside which is celebrated for its authentic regional cuisine, and vibrant traditional decor. We’ll have lunch with the shepherds, one of the many cultural, agricultural, and recreational activities offered here.

DAY 8 - ALGHERO, THE LITTLE BARCELONA, WHERE PEOPLE SPEAK CATALAN

Thursday April 8th, 2027 | B | L

We return to the West coast to visit Bosa, a charming and colorful town built along the river Temo (a 65 mile drive). Its castle crowns the top of the hill, and a maze of narrow streets drop down towards the river. After lunch at a local restaurant, en route to Alghero, we will drive along the beautiful panoramic road which runs along the Mediterranean coast.

Check-in to our hotel for three nights and gather again with our guide for an early evening walking tour of the old town.
