DAY 1 - Arrival in France

Arrival from the US to Paris Charles de Gaule Airport. Continuation by TGV train to Belfort, a 2-hour train ride from Paris. Check-in at your hotel for the next 3 nights. Welcome dinner and meeting of your fellow travelers.

 

 

 

DAY 2 - Besançon & Belfort

Departure after breakfast for a guided tour of the Peugeot Museum. You will learn about the history of the family and 210 years of “car adventure”. The Museum of the “Peugeot Adventure” is a historical museum devoted to the Peugeot automobile business. It was founded by the members of the Peugeot family and opened in 1988 within the industrial site of the company, in Sochaux.

 

Lunch at the museum among the old-timers’ cars.

 

In the afternoon you will have a private guided tour of the Peugeot factory where the cars are assembled. It is a unique opportunity to witness the “birth” of a car.

 

Welcome dinner at a private house.

 

DAY 3 - Besançon & Belfort

Departure to Besançon and visit the capital of Franche-Comté, very close to the Swiss border. The old city center lies in a horseshoe bend on the banks of the River Doubs. The sprawling citadel, perched on a hill, is home to 3 museums, a zoo and a third of a mile of remparts. At the foot of the hill, Besançon Cathedral has a unique astronomical clock which indicates sunrise, sunset, eclipses and tides in the French ports. Part of the sightseeing will be a lunch cruise on the “Vauban”.

Belfort has been a fortified place since the Middle Ages when a castle was built in 1226. After withstanding seven sieges, the medieval fortifications were modernized by the comte de la Suze (1637 – 1648). Vauban added horneworks and barracks to the castle and enclosed the city in a new wall according to Vauban “second system”. The fortifications successfully resisted a siege in 1815.

 

Return to your hotel and dinner on your own.

 

DAY 4 - Travel to Alsace via Mulhouse

Morning departure to go to Alsace. En route you will visit Mulhouse, the automobile city. Your guided city tour includes the visit to the greatest car museum in the world: the “National Museum of Automobile” developed around the Schlumpf Collection of classic models.

 

Lunch Afternoon wine tasting in a private winery at Domaine Riefle.

 

DAY 5 - Sochaux and the Peugeot Adventure

Sochaux is a small community 2 miles away from Montbeliard in the Doubs Departement, Province of Burgundy – Franche -Comté, 300 miles NE of Paris. It is in Sochaux that you will find the Peugeot Museum and where the Peugeot cars were manufactured before the company merged with Citroen to form the PSA Automobile group.
Celestial Voyagers will be able to organize a very unique and personalized visit for those who love cars and the history of the automobile.
