Individual arrival at Yopal and transfer to your hotel. Dinner and overnight at Hotel Villa Lisseth.
Today you may choose between Horseback Riding or Birdwatching, each followed by Wildlife Observation by Canoe. Either you head to your Llanero horseback adventure very early in the morning. After a short drive to the traditional Hacienda La Independencia (15 mins) you saddle your horse for the ride. The excursion leads through gallery forests, river streams, savannas, lagoons, palm groves and pastures. Or alternatively you may join a 2-3 hour hike across savannas and gallery forests to observe wildlife. On the way you cross a traditional bamboo bridge and you might spot some for howler monkeys and exotic birds, such as the colorful wire-tailed manakin (Pipra filicauda). After one of the morning excursions you will be transferred in 4×4 vehicles to the Nature Reserve near Trinidad. On a canoe tour down the river stream observe families of capybaras, caimans, groups of hoatzins, kingfishers, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, toucans and hundreds of cattle egrets and scarlet ibises returning to their roosting trees at sunset! Enjoy this spectacle up close from the water as our canoe glides peacefully past the roosting trees. After the mesmerizing sunset you will head towards your accommodation again in 4×4 vehicles. Overnight and dinner at the Posada near San Luis de Palenque.

(May – October) You take the boat down Rio Pauto, a gentle river surrounded by lush jungles. Here you may observe groups of howler monkeys, iguanas, hoatzins and other bird species along the shores. After about one hour you will reach the Finca La Candelilla. (November – April) You drive into the countryside past farms and fields until reaching Finca La Candelilla. The entrance is usually dotted with exotic birds searching for food in the rice fields and pastures. Explore the mainly self-sustaining farm with its mango, cacao and citrus trees, banana and cassava cultivations and hummingbirds buzzing around, attracted by the flowers and the tropical vegetation. Return to your Posada, dinner & overnight.

One hour drive to a large natural reserve near San Luis. You will spend the day exploring the natural reserve, where you may spot capybaras, white-tailed deer, spectacled caimans, tortoises and some interesting bird species. If you are lucky, you may also see an anteater, a puma, an anaconda (especially during dry season in February and March) or an armadillo. Around midday you will take a break, before you continue the safari across savannas and along lagoons, where the scenery gets wilder and more pristine. After enjoying the sunset in the prairie, you return to Yopal (2 h). Dinner & overnight at Hotel Villa Lissseth.

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for individual homebound flight or extension program.
