Today your trekking to the lost city of the Tayrona people starts. You will drive 1 1/2 hours by truck on the Pan- American Highway, then you follow an unpaved road for about an hour to reach the town of Machete Pelao. There, the mules will be loaded and our walk can start. During the first three hours we’ll pass through an area where settlers have planted bananas and cassava. When you pass the river El Machete you can take a short bath before you continue up to an altitude of 600 m for another two hours, walk on light shadowed jungle ways up to the house of Adán. Dinner and overnight in hammocks with mosquito nets. Swimming is available in a nearby natural fountain

After breakfast you will start for a six hours walk through to deep jungle. Halfway the reserve of the Koguis, direct descents of the Tayrona, begins. Crossing one of their villages you reach the house of the settler Gabriel, situated in the reserve. Before dinner you can take a refreshing bath in the nearby river Buritaca. Overnight in hammocks at House of Gabriel.
Now you will start your last stage to reach the lost city. Several times you cross the river Buritaca before you climb up over 2000 stone steps to reach Ciudad Perdida. Near the ruins, in the Visitors center, we will set up our camp for the night, where you of course can refresh yourself. Dinner and overnight in hammocks in the camp.

Today you explore the lost city, an archeological place in the middle of the jungle. Enjoy the site and surrounding and take a bath in the famous Fountain of Youth. Dinner and overnight in hammocks in the camp.

After breakfast you will start your trip back. During a seven hours walk downhill to reach the House of Adán you will cross the river Buritaca several times and frequently meet the local people. Dinner and overnight in hammocks in the House of Adán.
The last stage of your journey starts. Within a three hours walk you will reach the village of Machete Pelao, where the truck is waiting for you to bring you back to Santa Marta for an individual departure flight or extension program.
